Prologue

It was like the fabric of reality being broken down inside. A chasm ruptured through the ground, wrenching what was once a single entity into two isolated individuals. The pain and sorrow left behind from such an event scars forever, never healing, never being whole again.

As the lightning tore the world apart, the eudemon split, where once one stood, two now occupied its place. Howling in agony, both collapsed to the ground, their human appearance, save for their red glowing hands and eyes. Shuddering as the rain plumed the ground, they reached for each other.

"Here..."

"Where..."

"There..."

"Lost..."

"Lonely..."

"Isolated..."

Finally grasping hands, the horror of the situation was relived. They were completely cut off from one another, unable to grasp the completeness that they desired. Instead, they held each other, the warmth and closeness was the only thing that they could hold onto each other as a connection. In each other's arms, the pair of eudemons drift off to eternal sleep, never gaining themselves again.

A foot prodded the bodies of the eudemons, now being slowly consumed by the energy that made them.

"Another failed attempt. Perhaps one of these days we'll be able to make them live after we divide them. Nonetheless we won't be put down by pessimistic thoughts, let's get the next ones out, we'll have success at some point or another." The speaker was a human male, hidden by a long trench coat, from which a small pipe extended out from a wide brimmed hat, the end flaring up to reveal grey eyes.

"Sir, maybe eudemons are not meant to be separated?"

"Nonsense, if eudemons can be composed then surely they can be divided. It's the law of science, something that most people don't take seriously in this world. There must be a logical reason behind this and I seek to find just that! Now, bring the next eudemons out."

"Sir!"

He stood there, the droplets of rain bounced off his hat, the roar of the rain gradually overcame all senses, plunging him into a world immersed by nothing but darkness. Taking a deep breath, he opened his eyes and looked up at the moon that broke through the clouds.

Turning, he walked back towards the hut, mud splashing as he walked. Opening the door, the room was filled with all manner of different eudemons and his assistant was busy trying to coax one of out a cage that it had been tethered to. Walking past, he entered the backroom and proceeded down some steps.

Opening a metal door at the bottom, he enters what could only be described as a shrine. In the middle a glass tomb occupied the floor, its blue glow the source of the light in the room.  Walking up to it, the man knelt down; his hands found the solitude of the box a comfort.  Leaning over he looked at what was inside. As if almost carved out of pure diamond, a young lady of indescribable beauty slept within. Kiss the glass that separated them, he spoke softly, his words echoing around the room.

"Don't worry my Elian, I won't stop until hope is kindled again...your too precious to be lost to the eternal worlds, so just hold on that bit longer and we can travel together...my one and only love."
